The gorbeialdea region, comprised, among others, by the districts of Arantzazu, Areatza, Artea, Dima, Orozko, Otxandio, Ubide, Zeanuri and Zeberio, is located between the Ibaizabal valley, on the South and West with Alava lands and on the East with the Duranguesado, thus taking up the southernmost part of the province of Bizkaia. It is one of the regions with the fewest number of inhabitants, a thing that is also reflected in the population living there, of a low density and of a rural character in its most part.
An area of deep contrasts, mastered by the beauty of its landscapes and the uniqueness of its ecosystems, which has been described as one of the areas that best pictures the deep, rural and picturesque Bizkaia.
The special location of the area where the Mediterranean and Atlantic climates and conditions merge have catered to the growth of extremely rare vegetal and animal species within a reduced space. All this enhanced by a diverse surrounding with landscapes of a great interest.
These characteristics have influenced the creation of the Natural Parks of Gorbeia and Urkiola which extend over large areas of the aforementioned districts.
